Easy Oven Cleaning Tip!

Came across this on Facebook and thought I'd share with you!

After the Thanksgiving holiday, depending on how much cooking you did, you just may need to read and try this great oven cleaning tip!!

No one likes a dirty stove top or oven (I know I don't)! So, if you have some build up in your oven that the normal cleaners may not be removing, try this out!

Begin by preheating the oven to 150 degrees (or your lowest setting available). While the oven is heating, put on a pot of water to boil. Once the oven has reached 150, turn it off and pour 1 cup of ammonia into a heat safe bowl or baking dish and place it on the top rack of the oven. Place the pot of boiling water on the bottom rack, close the oven door, and leave them both in the oven overnight.

The next morning, open the oven and remove both the bowl of ammonia and the pot of water, keep the ammonia – you’ll use it later. Remove the racks and leave the oven door open to air out for 15 minutes. Add 1-2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid to the ammonia, along with 4 cups of warm water, and using a heavy-duty nylon scrubbing pad dipped in the ammonia mixture, begin to wipe away the softened grease and grime along the sides and bottom of the oven.

It should be a fairly easy job at this point. Wear some kitchen gloves, since ammonia can be caustic to skin. Rinse/wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Hope you found this tip helpful. Try it out, I plan too!

Until next time and as always...Thanks for checking out my blog: TwithTally!

  3. Talya,

I came across this post when searching how to clean my oven, as I realized today my husband and I have been in our apartment for about 8 months and I have yet to clean the oven...

Your's is very impressively sparkly! I also noticed in the after picture the racks are flipped the other way. Does it matter which way the racks are used?

    1. That's because it's not true. The two ovens are completely different insides. One is of blue material where the other is shiny metal. That's where they messed up, on the grills.

  4. Hi Ann,

My apologies for my late reply! But, no I don't think it will make a difference which way the racks are placed. Not sure if you've tried it yet, but I hope it worked for you just as great:)!!

  5. This is very interesting. The oven is one appliance that is well-used by homeowners, especially during the holidays. And these cleaning tips are just perfect, so you can be sure that it will be clean and ready whenever you need it. But if it seems like it isn't enough, calling a professional cleaner is a great alternative. Thanks for sharing!

I have yet to try this method out. Being as though it's only my husband and myself, the cooking I do will never have my stove to this level. I try to clean my oven/stove weekly and I think this method is surely for a oven/stove that needs a heavy clean. As I stated in the opening article..."This was found via facebook" and thought I'd share! However, feel free to try it out on your oven/stove, take pics before and after, and let me know how it worked- if it worked :)!!

  17. The vinegar will respond with the preparing pop and tenderly froth. Do a last wipe-down: Take your soggy fabric and crash the leftover frothy vinegar-preparing soft drink combination. Rehash until all the heating soft drink buildup is no more. Add more water or vinegar on a case by case basis while cleaning to truly get the broiler perfect and sparkling. But if you're to busy to do this all, we offer oven cleaning service in the area.

  18. Tackle the stove inside by scratching off any crusted-on food with the dull edge, then, at that point, shower on a business broiler cleaner or apply a cream chemical that will adhere to the sides of the broiler and entryway (and not get down to pool in the base). Ensure you don't get your picked item on seals, the fan, or the barbecue component as this could cause your stove harm.
